Arabella Kiszely Oil Paintings: Sea and Sky

18 September - 1 November 2009

Arabella Kiszely is a Cotswold-based artist, specialising in semi-abstract landscapes. Painting mainly in oils, her pictures are characterised by a confident, contemporary style, full of colour and form, influenced by Matisse, Seago and the Scottish Colourists.

In addition to the Cotswold countryside, Arabella has painted extensively in Scotland, increasingly on the Isle of Mull. Fascinated by the effect of changing weather and light on Mull`s rugged coastline, she has returned several times to paint the same views, often with startlingly different results - and it is for these seascapes that she is best known. Recently, the same fascination has taken her to the Cornish coastline.

Arabella`s technique is integral to her evocative style. She explains, `When painting these seascapes, I mix natural greens, blues and greys with highly saturated yellows and oranges, aiming to create an ambiguity between abstraction and reality.` The result is a semi-abstract painting where you can feel, as well as see, the force of nature.

Arabella`s work can be found at Little Buckland Gallery, near Broadway in Worcestershire, www.littlebucklandgallery.co.uk, as well as in an increasing number of private collections in Britain and Europe.
